Riders
To become a new rider in Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center's therapeutic program, contact us at the barn, 828 675-5630, home, 675-5814, or e-mail us at atrcriding@gmail.com. We will direct you on how to apply by downloading the necessary forms from the website.
For our regular riders, you can find all the necessary forms, that must be updated each year, under the Forms link. You can fill them out before the session and bring them with you to the first lesson. Just remember that we MUST have updated forms before you can ride. Regular horseback riding lessons are offered to first time or novice riders. If you are interested call or e-mail for lesson times, dates, and cost.
ATRC has served clients with cerebral palsy, Downs syndrome, brain injury, autism, speech and hearing impairments, learning disablities, mental illness, behavorial issuses, and depression. We have physcial, occupational, and speech therapists that participate in sessions on a regular basis. In therapeutic riding, riding instructors are teaching riding skills. Therapists are used as consultants, and the riders receive therapeutic benefits.
Cost
The cost to the rider for an eight week therapeutic riding session is $100.00. Actual cost to ATRC is $200.00. The board of directors of ATRC is committed to raising the other $100.00 for all the riders. The eight week session includes a thirty to forty-five minute lesson once a week with consultation from therapists, if indicated. Full and partial scholarships are avaliable.
